Attire for Girls State Functioning
The majority of the week requires business casual dress.
Examples: dresses, skirts, dress pants, capri pants, dress shirts/tops, sweaters, suits, etc.
- Shoulder straps should be at least 1-inch thick or covered with a sweater or other shirt
- Shorts and t-shirts are not appropriate during regular Girls State functioning but can be worn in the cities during recreation time.
- Jeans can be worn on Tuesday with the Girls State party shirt (available for purchase once you arrive).

Attire for Recreation Time
Casual clothes can be worn during recreation/free time and after last function of the evening.
Examples: Shorts, sweats, jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, slippers pajamas, bathrobes, etc.

Attire for Inauguration/Graduation Ceremony
- All-white dress or skirt
- White blouse, sweater or top
- White undergarments (Don't forget your slip!)
- White shoes
- If nylons are worn they should be white or neutral.
- White or neutral jewelry (gold or silver is ok).

Please do not wear:
- Mini skirts
- Spaghetti straps (unless covered by a sweater, etc.)
- Backless and/or strapless tops
- Off the shoulder tops
- Anything that shows a bare midriff

Other required items:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Pillow, sleeping bag or sheets and blankets
- Towels
- Toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair products, feminine products, deodorant, etc.

Suggested Items:
- Coat or Jacket
- Raincoat or umbrella
- Camera
- Alarm Clock
- Watch
- Small amount of money for personal purchases
- Cell Phone. Individual rooms do not have phone jacks, but access to a land line phone can be available. In those cases, please bring a calling card for long distance calls. Phone Calls are permitted during free time only.
- Small Fan
- Notebook, Pen/Pencil
- Backpack or bag to carry all of your materials

Please do not bring the following:
- Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs
- Large amounts of cash
- Irreplaceable items

Other Things to Consider When Packing
Campaigning is a significant part of the week. Even if you don't plan on running for office yourself, you may like to be on committees or help others. The following may be useful to you:
- Costumes
- Musical instruments
- Masking tape
- Markers
- Poster paper
- Any decorating items you may like to use

The weather at Girls State always varies. Some days start off chilly but end extremely hot. Some classrooms are air conditioned and others are not so it can get warm. We suggest dressing in layers or always having a sweater or jacket with you, just in case.
